Baptism

1 year ago today Macie was baptised at Our Lady Queen of Peace.  That was a very special day! Hayden and Melissa O'Malley became her God parents.  Ryan and I took turns holding her as the priest spoke about baptism and asked us to guide her as a Christian. We were surounded by family and close family friends.  I felt a sense of peace.  I had  made a decision for me and my family about which path we were going to take religiously.  When I was pregnant with Macie I had felt ashamed whenever I walked into a church, and felt betrayed at a time where I should feel the most warmth and joy.  That made me question my faith as a Catholic, so I was going back and forth in my head on who I was a a Christian.  My mother in law was the person who put things in perspective.  A sign of being baptised in a catholic church was a sign that the parents were acctually taking the responsibility to grow that child as a child of God, and if I as Macies parent was going to make the decision to get her baptised I needed to make sure to follow through and guide her to meet all her sacraments.  Ryan and I made that decision and took that responsibility.  Here we are a year later and we have been attending Sacred Heart since October 10th 2010 and we absolutly love it.  The people there are so welcoming and warm.  They go out of their way to make you feel a sense of belonging.  Ryan and I have contemplated becoming part of a young adult group, and Macie has been invited to attend tuesdays and thursday school to learn about God and work on other learning skills for toddlers. We have only missed 3 times since then, once when ryan had to be at work early( when he was still at footlocker), when we had pink eye, and when we were visiting my mom.  Since Macie has been getting older it has been harder for us to keep her quiet, and harder for us to listen to the sermon, so today she attended daycare during church for the first time and she loved it!  My Nanny and Pops got her a bible for Easter and every night we read it and then blow bubbles ( because when we first started she thought we were saying bubbles instead of bible) haha, and now we have more bibles and prayers to read, because Hayden and Melissa stopped by and gave her some books as a anniversary present for being their God child for a year!  Ryan and I have also taken up reading the bible every night since lent had started.  I am very proud of us. We have come so far as Christians/ Catholics in such a short time, and I can honestly say I feel a sense of peace, and belonging.  It is amazing how God works in our lives.  I am excited for Macie to be able to grow up in a church home and make life long friends.  I cant belive that all this has come from the one little decision to get Macie baptised.  It all fell into place, and I thank God for the many blessing he has given my family and I.
